New Mexico's indigenous culture is rich and vibrant. The state is home to a variety of unique Native American communities, including nineteen tribes, each of which has their own government, traditions, and culture. Every year, New Mexico hosts a celebration of these communities, which is known as the Gathering of Nations.

Since 1983, Albuquerque has been hosting the Gathering of Nations Powwow and Miss Indian World Pageant. It is one of the most famous annual festivals in the state, and it is the biggest largest annual powwow in North America. The festival began as a way of providing Native people with a space to come together and celebrate culture in a comfortable environment.
The Gathering of Nations Powwow takes place at the New Mexico State Fair Grounds (Expo NM), on the defined powwow grounds. Here, people from around the world can share traditional teaching and participate in the passage of knowledge from one generation to the next. Programs include dance competitions, live music, and parades. You can also browse vendors at the Traders' Market or purchase food at the food court.
